If you’ve ever had the urge to get yourself a boat, but were a little worried about having to sell the car in order to afford it, you may be in luck. Because there’s now a way to own the two things in one, providing you’re willing to compromise.
The Panther from Watercar is billed as the fastest amphibious car in the world, and it certainly does seem to hustle along. Top speed on land is a sprightly 80+ mph, and over water it’s a screaming 44mph, which is definitely enough to get your water skis out.
From the looks of the marketing blurb they company is aiming the boat/car at those rich enough to own a yacht as well, which may explain the $135,000 purchase price as well. You can do it cheaper by buying just the rolling chassis for $75K, but then you’ll need to add your own engine and stuff. The default configuration comes with a Honda 3.7 liter V6 engine, and the boat side is powered by a jet propulsion system as you’ll find on jet-skis.
The thing also clearly needs lots of sunlight and not much cold, since there’s no roof, although the company says it’s working on that. But for now, we’d be happy scooting around the highways and byways of both land and sea in something like this. It looks like fun, although there’s no word on fuel consumption figures, which we guess is a bad sign.
