Trontium Reactor – 290 watt-hours of portable power in a 9 inch tube

When it comes to portable power, you can never ever have too much. The powers that be know this, which is why they keep coming up with more and more solutions, but we think this one is probably the most ambitious we’ve seen yet.

This 1.4 kg tubular portable charger basically holds enough juice to re-charge your phone or tablet up to 10 to 50 times, depending on device type and model. Inside the sleek metallic barrel is a pretty conventional lithium-ion battery pack, with three 100 watt USB ports integrated on the top.

It also features on-board WiFi and Bluetooth so it can communicate with a smartphone app, but the main claim to fame is the fact that it will provide USB Power Delivery, a new standard which supplies variable USB power to devices according to the demand and need. This promises ultra fast charging and more inter-operability so you can charge different products from one charger.

The Reactor is the first mainstream product using this tech we’ve seen, although to be fair it’s still in a crowdfunding state, so we assume it will only ship when enough orders have been obtained. The price of the product, which you order and pay for now, but which has no set shipping date, is $299.
