This Beam Pro product is a good indication of what it might be like to live in a world where we all interact at work through mobile robots which schmooze around the office while we’re somewhere far away. Maybe up in Elysium?
It’s probably the really gruesome video with the predatory boss stalking the corridors with her surrogate robot that gives us the willies. It’s bad enough having to deal with someone in flesh and blood, but having to engage in earnest chat with an LCD screen on wheels is probably the worst.
What’s really striking about the video is how logical it all seems. If the technology is working to this sophistication already, it’s definitely not going to be long until we have entire office buildings staffed with little robots, running around greeting each other in the elevator and hanging out round the water cooler. But then who’s going to be doing the actual work?
And the price of each robot starts at $16,000? Sign us up, Doctor. But this video? Aargh…
