If you’ve ever tried to transfer a song you’ve learned from the guitar to paper, you’ll know it can be a real pain getting it right. You’ve got to make sure you put all the notes and chords in the right place, as well as the fingering, and it takes time. Now there’s a new app coming which promises to make it much easier all round.
Tabify listens to you playing the guitar and automatically writes out tabs of the music you’ve played. The software seems to do a pretty good job of it, at least according to the video below, but like voice recognition transcription you’re probably going to have to do some sort of editing afterwards to fix all the glitches.
The software is currently in development, so it’s likely it will become more accurate as that progresses, but for now we’re pretty blown away by the fact that it can even recognize the notes and strummed chords so accurately. The finished app will also let you share your results with friends and upload to tab sites of your choice. Very cool.
