The Britt Pedal – convert any bike into an electric bike instantly by changing the pedals

brittpedal

If you’ve ever struggled up a hill on your bicycle and wished there was a way to make the task easier, you might be interested in this interesting product which is apparently under development. We say apparently, because although it’s won a few awards, there’s been no real sighting of a real working prototype, and so we have to file it under ‘possibly too good to be true.

The idea behind the Britt Pedal is you rip off the standard pedals on your bike and replace them with these electric ones, which incorporate a tiny motor and battery to give you added motive assistance as you cycle along. It’s a very cool idea all right, but although the blurb claims you can get 10 miles assistance per charge, we’re still not sure what the ‘assistance‘ means in real terms.

The developer, Stephen Britt, is apparently currently looking for additional funding in order to start up production and bring the product to market, we’re rather surprised he hasn’t considered Kickstarter or Indiegogo for that. Well let’s see. The concept has been knocking around for a few years, maybe it will see the light of day one day soon.

  • I’d buy this. In 5 minute you could take them on and off your bike. Very convenient.

  • I think I saw this on a TV Programme a few months ago, if it is the same product, the problem was cost. The one on the TV Programme was ridiculously expensive.

    • Oh interesting. Can you remember how much, roughly?
