Desktop Tornado – make friends with your own personal on-tap twister

If you really want to remind yourself how puny we humans are compared to the majestic forces of nature, you only have to watch a few videos of hurricanes or tornados. These spectacular weather events dwarf anything we can offer up, but deadly as they are, they have their own innate beauty as well.

Now you can have a smaller and more benign example on your desk. This Desktop Tornado is an 18 inches high cylinder which can mimic the wind vortices of a genuine twister and deliver a controlled tornado right next to your pen and telephone.

The device works by using an atomizer to convert water into a fine mist, which is then subject to some strategically placed fans to recreate the whirling wind effect on demand. The whole thing comes with a user manual which gives various experiments you can try to vary the effects. As far as we’re concerned this is as close as we’d like to get to a real tornado, thanks very much. Yours for $299.95. Video .
