Even though Soylent is all over the place as the substitute for food, I still enjoy a nice home cooked meal. Which means I’m always on the look out for gadgets which will help me produce better results, and why this little tool looks so useful.
The Kuhn Rikon Smart Lid helps to keep your meal from getting too dry or from drowning in moisture. The concept is so simple, it’s really amazing that no one has thought of it before. It’s a valve system. The lid is able to lock a tight seal on just about any size pot, certainly the most common ones found in the household. Once placed, you can either set it on automatic which will allow it to release steam as moisture rises to high or on manual which traps the steam in keeping the dish moist.
It’s basically a pot lid that works like a radiator. In answer to the question of, “why would I even need this?” but think about all the times that you’ve over cooked chicken and ended up with burnt sauce and dry breasts. Or even worse, undercooked rice and ended up choking down crunchy grains rather than fluffy goodness. The Kuhn Rikon is $30. But think of all the meals that can be saved.
