Listening to music in the background while you do other things in your computer just got easier. While most of us may rely on our MP3 collection played through iTunes or some other software, others simply go to a free streaming website like YouTube and listen from there. But now there’s a third way.
If you find the second option more appealing, you’d be glad to know that an extension for Chrome called Streamus lets you stream songs from YouTube — without actually being on YouTube.
After installing the app, you just need to click on the Streamus icon on the top-right corner of the browser.
You’ll see an empty window where you can start searching for songs to add to the player on the right pane.
Searching for songs automatically pulls up a list of search results (all sourced from YouTube) and you can either click the Play button, or the plus button to add it to the current playlist.
When you’re done adding songs, you can then go to the bottom of the playlist and hit the “Save stream” button. This allows you to save and give your playlist a name. For a quick music fix, especially when you want to hear a song that’s not in your collection, this extension comes in very handy.
