Robot Surgeon Completes First Operation – now we’re really truly scared

robotsurgeon

Look, we were perfectly happy when the robots came for us in Terminator, because, well you know, that was a movie. And we chuckled along with the rest of the world when cute little Wall-E glittered onto our screens. But dude, this stuff is supposed to remain fiction, not real world, cringe inducing fact. But now it is.

The $4.9 million vision powered robot you see here has just completed the first ever robot surgery on a human being. Yep, in the short space of just 30 minutes the thing – nattily called the da Vinci Surgery Robot – removed some poor sap’s gall-bladder.

The robot features a full blown 3D vision system, flexible arms (good job!) and a control panel, hopefully with a big red STOP button just in case something dodgy happens. What we really really want to know though, is who on earth would volunteer to be the first person to be operated on by a robot? Welcome to the 24th century.

  • In my state’s capitol city they have a bunch of lawsuits commercials for the daVinci Surgical robot. Not sure what happened but it seems to have happened a lot from the amount of ambulance chasers on board.
