There are chilli peppers and then there are chilli peppers, and the Bhut Jolokia, or Ghost Chilli is the world’s hottest, at least according to the Guinness Book of Records. It’s so hot that villagers in India apparently use it smeared on fence posts to keep the elephants away. We’re talking ten times hotter than a habanero chilli. Get the idea?
Now you can grow this 1,000,000 Scoville units chilli at home on your windowsill with the Ghost Chilli Growing Kit, if you’ve got the stomach for it. Literally. Personally we’re not itching (geddit?) to try this stuff out, but we’re sure there are folks nutty enough out there to do so, and good luck to them.
The kit actually ships in an aluminum can with the seeds and growing medium all included inside. Just pop the top, add some water, stick in a very bright and warm spot and wait. There’s probably a lot more to it than that, like finicky watering and feeding regimes, but we’re sticking with the marketing blurb. Try it if you dare, or maybe the gift for the person who has everything? Priced at $7.95 a can.
