R-Pal Personal Area Light – portable 300 lumen keychain lantern is much more than just a flashlight

Sometimes you need a little more than just a standard flashlight to help you out in the dark. Torches are all right, but they can be a little too, well focused in the illumination they supply. It’s their way or the highway. Which is why the R-PAL Personal Area Light is such a nifty gadget.

The R-Pal isn’t a conventional flashlight. Instead this tiny, keychain friendly tool is a 300 lumen all round lantern, which you can use to light up your whole environment, not just the pathway. It’s designed for more general things, like reading a map or finding your dropped cell phone under the seat of your car, or even just chilling out with a magazine in the garden as the dusk draws in. Its compact size means you’re actually likely to have it on hand unlike that emergency flashlight you keep in your trunk. The one with the batteries that died three years ago that you never changed.

The fact that the rechargeable battery lasts for up to 63 hours is very cool, as is the fact that it comes with a standard tripod socket, so you can set it up as a proper table lamp with a quick twist of the wrist and a handy camera ‘pod. An all round versatile little gizmo. The R-Pal is waterproof and impact resistant up to 5 ft. It costs $129.99.
