Vision – online free eye test not quite ready for prime time

vision1

We stumbled across a new site the other day which promises to provide an on-screen eye test service using nothing more exotic than your monitor and a smartphone. The project is clearly still in beta (because there’s a big beta badge on it) so we’re happy to give it a bit of slack, but there is one huge problem which the developers seem to have overlooked.

Vision has a very simple interface, just a few words and an image of a screen and phone. The idea appears to be that you scan the QR barcode on the screen, then calibrate your monitor (for size) and then start the test sitting 4 meters away from your screen.

The big problem is there are absolutely no instructions. At all. Just those basic sketchy commands. What do I do when I’m sitting there looking at the screen? What is the phone for? What are all those stars for? Why am I wasting my time with a site which has clearly not moved out of Alpha, let alone Beta?

Ah yes, we promised to be gentle. So please developer people, sort our your app, because it actually does look interesting.
