Tapster – could this touchscreen tapping robot one day run our lives?

If you’re a developer of mobile games and apps, one of the big hassles is having to test everything to make sure it works OK. Which means loading the software and laboriously going through the tests on a demo phone touchscreen to make sure it all works as it should. Or you could get smarter.

Tapster is a touchscreen robot which is designed to automate the use of a touchscreen by pressing and swiping where necessary. So instead of having to do it all yourself manually, just fire up this puppy and it will happily tap and touch the screen to make sure the app or game works as it should.

But why stop at testing? With a little bit of ingenuity (and some code) we can imagine lots of scenarios where you might use a touchscreen robot for automated tasks. Set it up on a phone by the fridge to order more milk automatically when you take the last carton out. Or install one by the door with an old smartphone to do a quick weather check when it sees you approaching the exit to go out. The possibilities are endless.

Resistance to our future robot overlords is also futile. You can pick up a Tapster kit for $650.
