If you need proof of just how fast the tech market moves, you need look no further than the tablet computer arena. Not only are prices plummeting, but the design and specifications are also changing rapidly, to the extent that it’s hard to find fault with the latest generation of generic tablet computers, even at the budget price end of the market.

The latest E-Ceros Revolution 2 Tablet is a good example of what we mean. When we first started reviewing this brand of tablet computer, they offered pretty reasonable functionality, but with few bells and whistles for the price. Now that’s changed, as the latest generation offers great pricing and features all in one.Check out our video below for a look at the features and specs.

First impressions
The tablet comes in a typical E-Ceros style box, nothing too fancy, but with all the bits you need to get going inside. This includes a USB charge cable and power block, a small but decently produced user manual, a simple case for protection against the elements and a useful OTG cable which lets you connect USB accessories like external hard drives and such to the micro USB port.

In use
The specifications of the tablet computer are solid all the way through. It features a quad core 1.8GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, a 9.7 inch 2048×1576 Retina screen and a whopping great 8000 mAh battery. The device also supports up to 128 GB of external storage via microSD cards, which means you have the possibility of having 160 GB of storage on this puppy, which is almost laptop levels.

The specifications of the tablet translate into a nice performance experience. The Antutu benchmark delivers a figure of 33148, which is a very solid ranking for a tablet computer of this price, and this figure is reflected in a solid handling of all the graphics and gaming content on the device. Our test of Real Racing showed off beautiful crisp graphics on the Retina display, and maps and web browsing were also superb. Even YouTube in HD proved to be glitch free, and that’s definitely a sign of some nice hefty graphics functionality.

We weren’t able to test out the battery life in detail, but with 8000 mAh on tap, it’s one of the best equipped tablets of this class, which should translate into a very respectable battery life. The specs claim 7 hours use, and we’d expect that to be the top line, unless you’re making heavy use of gaming, at which point all portable devices suffer. But even so, the battery app we put on to the product was at one point showing 14 days life left, on 80% charge, which may be ludicrously optimistic, but gives an indication that the battery is pretty strong where it counts.

Conclusion
The tablet computer market is constantly changing, as technologies improve and costs of production decrease. This is obvious from the impressive improvement in dimensions, power and functionality from generic tablet products, and the E-Ceros Revolution 2 shows that off perfectly. With that amazing display, huge battery, 32GB of storage on-board and 1.8 GHz quad core processor this is a budget tablet which delivers premium specifications. And it does so in a very impressively thin and elegant form factor. If you’re in the market for a tablet computer, definitely put this on your evaluation list. It’s worth it.

  • So, if I wanted a tablet purely for web browsing and (especially) Skype, would this be yr no. 1 recommendation?

I,m actually looking for a friend whose Chinese wife needs a better solution to Skype her parents.
