Flips Convertible Headphone Speakers – clever headphones convert into speakers with a flick of the wrist

This new gadget definitely hails from the ‘why’s it taken so long’ department. You know how headphones are great for listening privately to your music, but not so useful when you want to fill a room with sound? Yeah well about that. These new Flips Convertible Headphone Speakers have changed all that completely.

The earcups on the headphones rotate 180 degrees to convert from private listening to full blown 98 decibel speakers. The secret lies in an internal battery powered amplifier which switches on when you do the rotation of the cups thing. Clever!

The product delivers three hours of sound from a single 3 hour USB based charge of the internal battery, but the headphone part doesn’t need any battery power at all. The whole idea is pretty neat, and they will fit any standard 3.5mm headphone jack. You can pick these up for $119.95.

  • I have a pair of these that I bought through points from Mountain Dew. They are pretty neat except for the fact that they are NOT loud when you have them on as headphones. I always thought that the whole idea behind using headphones was to ruin your hearing in private. LOL Seriously though, once you “flip” them, they are pretty loud and make even my daughters raggedy laptop sound pretty awesome. I don’t know if it’s something new that they just came out with but they now have a set of Flips that cost around $350US.
