The attractively named Sony MEX-HD1 is a car CD player with a difference – it will also rip (read copy) your CD music to its internal 10 GB hard disk on demand in MP3 format. This means that eventually you can stop carting your CDs to the car and just listen to everything stored in the unit itself. By my dubious calculations the thing should store around 2000 tracks or so, if they’re running conventional compression, which is a fair amount. But the bad news is the $1500.00 price tag. For that I think I’d rather use an iPod and a car cassette adapter.
