There’s some weird stuff out there on the web no doubt, but this one definitely gets our vote for the ‘most unlikely’ combo on the intertubes. Take a liberal sprinkling of Google’s majestic Street View service, throw in a dash of Second Life avatar goodness, and presto – you’ve got Dive Real.
What does that mean? Well it means you get to walk around real live locations on any part of the globe there’s a view available, and interact to others on a similar voyage of discovery.
Are you freaked out yet? You should be. But in case not, the thing is even compatible with the Oculus Rift, so you can immerse yourself in full 3D VR at the same time and really raise the tiny hairs on the back of your neck.
You need to download it for Windows to enjoy the experience, and it’s totally free for now. But we wouldn’t count on that lasting too long if it gets successful. Oh and yes, you do all your running around in between people with their faces blocked out. Spooky indeed.
