Fire Piston – it’s time to retire those matches for camping

Fire Piston

We don’t use science enough in our lives. Or rather, we use it all the time but are we really aware of it? With the Fire Piston you are sure to actively use science for (controlled) explosive results. It’s good for all your fire building needs and will probably replace your tired matches.

The Fire Piston is a wooden cylinder that works on Boyles’ Law which is about the interaction between pressure and temperature. Basically, your pump it and create fire. It comes in either cotton string gasket or o-ring gasket. The cotton string is good for about 25 fires where the o-ring will last for 100 fires.

Besides looking pretty cool, this item is more than just a pretty face. It’s designed to help people start fires while out in the elements. You don’t have to worry about this device running out of batteries or not working when wet, it will always be able to give you a light (unless the gasket is empty). Never get caught out in the cold without the means to make fire again. The Fire Piston starts at $65.
