Tone Analyzer – make sure that email isn’t accidently angry

Tone Analyzer 1

By now most people are aware that tone does not convey well over the internet. You may mean a comment to be lighthearted and funny and it comes off across the screen as a declaration of war. Even between friends, navigating written communication can be tricky. The Tone Analyzer wants to help you get the feeling of your message across easier.

The Tone Analyzer looks at your text and gives you an idea of how the other person will take what you’ve written and why. It uses a special API to review your text and assigns values to your word choices. It then puts out a result that lets you know how agreeable (or not) your missive is.

Tone Analyzer 2

The goal is to write something pleasant so if you’re trying to be awful over email, this will not help you but if you are attempting to be friendly, this will suggest words choices that will make your letter more agreeable. The scan isn’t perfect as it assigns negative meaning to words at face value and not based on context. Still, it’s a good place to start if you have trouble being understood online. The Tone Analyzer is a free website.
