WalkCar – an electric personal transporter the size of a laptop

walkcar1

First there was the Segway. Big, bulky, expensive and definitely not for your great Aunt Maude. But it signaled the possibilities for electric personal transportation. Fast forward sixteen years and witness the latest generation of these incredible machines. Tiny, ultra light, tough and amazing.

The WalkCar is an electric transporter which will carry a person up to 7 miles at a speed of up to 6 mph on a single charge. Best of all, it’s light enough at 3 kgs and small enough to fit into a shopping bag when not in use. Which is amazing when you consider the technology needed to haul a body weighing up to 120 kgs along a road.

The video shows how easy the thing is to ride (even an Aunt Maude seems happy on it) and how it can be carried around without effort. The developers are hoping to sell the product for around $800 (£500), but before that they’ll be going the crowdfunding route to grab some support. We’ve got to say, even though we’re not easily impressed, if they can bring this off, it will be a totally mind-blowing product.
