Readlang – learn a new language by reading what you want

Readlang page

Learning a new language is really hard but thanks to technology, it’s getting a bit easier to do even if you’re long out of school. Usually if you want to learn a new language you’re restricted to whatever the program has for you to read. Readlang is the site and website extension that allows you to read what you want in the language you’re learning.

Readlang allows you to pick what language you speak and which one you’re learning so you can find media to help you learn in a real world setting. There are 17 languages that the site has mastery of plus a whole host of other languages in beta. If you’re using the site, once you’ve chosen your language, you will be able to read texts in that language with on hand translation help.

As you are reading, if you do not understand a word or phrase, you can click on it and you will get an instant translation to your native language. The words you don’t know are collected as flashcards so that you can test on them later. The optional Web Reader works the same way and will expand your horizons to work outside of the main library. Readlang is free but there is a paid option to upgrade for slightly more perks.

  • SO many different fusion of ideas to learn a language. This seems like an effective system.

    • Yes, I thought it a very good way to learn or to at least supplement learning. Especially if you could find a text that you’re already familiar with in the beginning.
