We’re all getting used to having a clean social media presence for employers who may Google us but now we may have to make sure our social media faces are scrubbed clean to find a place to live. Tenant Assured is the service for landlords that will check your social media profiles to make sure you’ll pay your rent.
This service is still under construction and although it sounds extremely invasive, it’s perfectly legal (and also very, very invasive). The idea is that credit reports and proof of income may not be enough to really show what type of tenant you are. The service gives potential landlords a look into the real you, after you sign off on an agreement.
It promises a full report that will show things like personality, high risk behaviors such as smoking, or if they’re not actually who they say they are. It links through Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and Instagram to give a better picture of you, as a potential renter. The service will only be available in the UK market and it’s pretty much banking on the fact that people NEED homes so they’ll agree to this. Renting may be about to get a whole lot more competitive but if you’re interested you can contact the company directly.
