If you live with other people in a home that has more than one floor, then you know the annoyance of trying to get someone’s attention to turn down the music or answer the door. Most homes don’t have intercoms but you can change that with the Nucleus, the home intercom system that runs on Android.
Even though the major highpoint to this is the fact that I won’t have to yell up the steps because dinner is getting cold, it does much more than facilitate easier (and quieter) communication. It can also act as a virtual assistant, keeping your calendar up to date, playing music, or compiling your grocery list.
You can also use It to video call family members and other households that have the system installed. The system is extremely versatile letting it be used for a variety of functions that making it a good fit for many diverse households. If for nothing else, you’ll be able to make sure everyone comes down for dinner while it’s still hot. The Nucleus is $249.
It seems you need an Internet connection and the security ramifications that go along with this. I thought the device was more closed-circuit but it’s Voice/Video over IP. The quick start guide also warns against “extreme” hot and cold but no actual numbers. Avoid also direct sunlight.
Interesting product but really just a tablet with a customized interface. Some nice features though with physical camera shutter, front firing speakers (no mention as to how loud), (possibly) ease of use and what looks like a pretty user-friendly interface.
Still… they need to speak more to the security aspects of the device.
