GiveDirectly – a different way to give

Many people give to charity as a way to help people who really need it but there have also been many headlines in the news that point out that those donations don’t always go towards things that will help anyone, other than the pockets of the charity themselves. GiveDirectly is a way to send money directly to the people who need it most.

This is a new model of giving. It’s not about helping to fund initiatives that will help a group such as digging wells or disaster relief, this charity gives the people living in extreme poverty money directly to use as they would best see fit. The organization transfers the money via electronic payment and the recipient can pick it up from a money agent.

This is a really unusual way of giving and counter to what most people think about charity. People may question that the people who receive money will do the “right” thing with it but overall, the giving of funds directly has a positive effect on the communities and people generally use it to take care of things they wouldn’t be able to otherwise. Check out the website to learn more or maybe even give a little.
