Holograms are really neat but the technology is one that is usually only accessible to large-scale operations, not just hanging out in your living room. Well, until the Holovect MK II drops, the devices that lets you make a 3D display with light, right at home.
So this thing is pretty basic compared to Tupac rapping live on stage 15 years after he died but it’s still pretty neat. First and foremost though, these aren’t REALLY holograms (sorry to let you down) they’re volumetric vector images that have been projected onto modified air. They’re more like 3D projections.
You can use software to create your own designs to be projected but right now, as neat as this technology is, there aren’t very many current uses for it. In the future, you may be able to play games that use this technology or use it in more artistic ways but for now, it’s just getting its start. The project is funding on Kickstarter and you can get your own starting at $799.
