Scam Alert – you might be giving your personal info away in this phishing scam

Autofill forms are so handy! Especially if you fill out a lot of things online. Shopping, newsletters, job applications, the list of things you need your name and address for online is long but autofill makes the job quick! Unfortunately, it can also be used to steal your personal information because we just literally cannot have nice things.

This isn’t a complex phishing scam. All that happens is that sites who are out to get that sweet information hide certain fields from you. You think you’re just giving your name and email but the browser is autofilling your address and in some cases, credit card information. The fields for this information are just hidden so you can’t see it, but your browser can. So it fills it in.

This is a problem for most all modern browsers except for Firefox, which only fills in visible fields. There’s no patch to keep websites from hiding fields and stealing information. To be safe you can turn autofill off completely (ugh) until the problem is, hopefully, solved. If that isn’t an option, just try to be careful when dealing with unfamiliar websites. Be safe out there readers!
