One of the consequences of the forward momentum of technology is that the parts we need to keep some of favorite gizmos and gadgets going will eventually stop being made. That time has already come for Porsche but they found an innovative solution: 3D Printing.
In order to keep parts that were hard to find and no longer in production available to collectors of the luxury sports car, they have started 3D printing them. This is an excellent solution because it’s not controlled by production. You won’t lose money on running machinery to make a single part or be forced to make a bunch when you only need one.
The parts is reproduced after the original and made to meet all the requirements there of. We’ve seen 3D printers used for a variety of applications, including full cars. Why not use them for single parts? Maybe this will extend to other beloved technology to keep them alive just a bit longer.
