Your Eyes and Screens – this essay reminds us to give our eyes a break from time to time

When was the last time you considered your eyes when looking at your computer screen? Probably when it got a bit more difficult to see. We stare at screens all day and although we obviously love technology, our eyes weren’t designed for that. This piece wants us to give more thought to working on seeing other things, besides our screens for our eyes’ sake.

Usually the dangers of screen time are spoken in warning tones about addiction and disconnection from the greater world. This essay is focused on the physical eyestrain that our use of screens puts us through. Constantly staring at them does weaken our eyes and we’re not doing much to keep it from happening.

This isn’t a scientific study or a breakthrough but it’s Friday and it’s a good mental exercise (as well as reminder) to put down the phone and just stare at the wide world for a moment, give your blinkers a bit of a break for a few minutes if you can. Your eyes will thank you.

Donyae’s love for technology is based on a need to survive our future robotic overlords. Know thy enemy as you know yourself. But since even odds are on the zombie future, she has also learned how to prepare squirrel. You can find her on Facebook until the robots – or zombies – rise up.
