Gumshoe – the sneaker made from recycled gum

Ever been walking down the street and just step on some gum that someone spit out and left there? Probably because people are gross and thoughtless. In Amsterdam people have this problem as well but one company wants to turn all that thrown out gum into sneakers. Gumshoe is the first sneaker partially made from recycled gum.

Remember how your mom told you if you swallowed gum it would stay in your belly for seven years. Well that is not true but it is true that gum is tough stuff. Tough enough to be recycled into sneaker soles. So why not use it?

They sent teams out into the city to collect the gum from the streets. They refined it into a useable rubber and made it into a shoe sole. So no, it’s not sticky anymore, you can walk around without a problem. Currently on preorder, if you want a pair of these they come in black and pink and cost €49.95.
