Slowly – pen pals for the 21st century

Our connected world is awesome for helping us to keep contact with people all over the globe. Talk to your friends in drastically different time zones instantly with no trouble with any number of apps and services. As cool as that is, having a pen pal feels a bit different and the Slowly app wants to recapture that feeling.

This app lets you send letters to strangers who then send letters back. It’s a pen pal matchmaker. Here’s the thing though, these letters aren’t instant. They’re sent electronically, sure, but it will still take a little bit of time for your letter to get to where it’s going, and the reply to come back. Just like physical letters.

The app is designed to encourage people to take time to meet others, think about what they want to say and learn to wait to hear back. To take things, slowly. Collect stamps, meet new people based on interests and build relationships, slowly. The app is available in both the App and Play stores.

Donyae’s love for technology is based on a need to survive our future robotic overlords. Know thy enemy as you know yourself. But since even odds are on the zombie future, she has also learned how to prepare squirrel. You can find her on Facebook until the robots – or zombies – rise up.
