How Much Plastic Waste Is There – graphic lays out how big the problem is

How much plastic is there in landfills? Is it really that big of problem? Well the short answer is, yes. This awesome graphic from the Royal Statistical Society drops some quick facts about the state of plastic in the world and shows why, more than ever, we need to be moving towards less plastic use rather than counting on recycling to save us.

As it turns out, most plastic created has not been recycled. This means that we’ve created a ridiculous amount of long lasting waste. These are just numbers so of course there were plastics that were reused and some that were burnt but the sheer amount of the hypothetical is staggering.

Maybe that will encourage you to remember your reusable bags or cups instead of one time use items, if you can. Check out the graphic to get an idea of the problem.
