Bioplastics – same use traditional plastic but biodegradable

You may have heard about bioplastics but are still confused about what they are. In short, they’re plastics made from biodegradable materials and as we struggle to cut down on plastic use, this option may offer a replacement for the material that’s casing so much harm to the environment.

Bioplastics are made from a more sustainable process and work for many applications that we generally use standard plastic for such as grocery bags and fabric. The base is made from a hemp composite. The final product can be composted and has a smaller carbon footprint than traditional plastic.

Bioplastics are already in use, you may have received a shopping bag from an eco friendly shop, for example, but they are not widely in use. At this time they only count for a small fraction of plastics that are used. Increasing the usage of this type of plastic won’t cut down on waste but it will help to ensure that waste isn’t sticking around for generations.
