Stopping Light Pollution – ‘reduce’ is the R that helps here

Light pollution sounds like such a funny thing, how can light pollute anything? It’s LIGHT! Although light is generally considered a good thing, the truth is, it’s destroying something important: Night. And we as well as nature in general need that time of darkness to survive. This article has some tips on reducing light pollution.

The tips range from personal to public ways to lessen light pollution in our lives. One of the main takeaways is that our nice, bright LED lights are doing quite a bit of damage so lessening their use will help overall. Switching out outdoor bulbs for softer, warmer lights will help a great deal.

Another suggestion is for people to work with natural day/night cycles as much as possible. If you’re sleeping when it’s dark, you’re not contributing to the problem. For larger scale movements, they’ve recommended petitions to local governments to make changes. Check out the article for full details.
