Nothing works to get people interested in a cause quite like turning it into a game. Pretty much anything can be made more interesting to the general public if you attach a way to win at it. This is the basic premise behind Ducky and their emission challenge and guess what? It worked!
The company worked with 27 Norwegian high school and in just three weeks over 270K worth of carbon emissions were saved. They know this because all the carbon actions were tracked with the app. They just logged their actions, the more carbon friendly they were, the more they saved, the higher they went up in the rankings.
It worked so well that the other groups in the country are starting to look at implementing it in their own offices and organizations as a way to help fight against climate change. You can check out the website for more information.
