SnowWhite – LG’s prototype ice cream maker is very neat but maybe not the best idea

One of the major hits at SXSW this year has been the SnowWhite, LG’s prototype pod based ice cream machine. This thing sounds awesome but honestly but this concept is a miss for us unless those pods are made from at least recyclable plastics or else it’s the Keurig K-cup disaster all over again.

This gadget will allow you to make single serve versions of a ton of different tasty frozen treats which is awesome! How much fun is that? A cup of ice cream? A cup of custard? It’s got your back! Just pop your cup in and you’re ready to go after a short wait. That cup is the problem though.

K-cups produced a lot of plastic waste as did pretty much every knock off version of the product. This would be no different and as fun and handy as these devices are, it’s really important to consider all aspects of it. Is the novelty of this really worth the amount of garbage it may create?
