Climate Change Refugees – in a decade, whole islands will be gone

A very real consequence of the climate crisis is going to be refugees. People are going to be displaced because their homes literally will not exist anymore. Hundreds of thousands of people’s homes will be sinking into the rising sea. And there’s not really a plan for that.

Some people have floated (ha!) the idea of floating or underwater cities which sounds awesome in a science fiction sort of way but both of these options are really little more than ideas and theories while the people who will be displaced are running out of time.

Many small islands around the world are projected to disappear or become otherwise uninhabitable by 2030. That’s only a decade away. More focus and planning needs to be put towards how nations will handle the climate fueled refugee issue. After all, there’s no going back once the ocean has claimed their land.
