Carbon sinks are one of the methods people are hoping will really help offset emissions over the next few years. What if there was a way to supercharge them? That’s a possibility with biochar, an emission sucking wonder material.
Biochar looks like charcoal which it basically is. It is created by burning plant and other organic matter at super high heats with very little oxygen which causes bypasses the natural release of carbon that would happen if they just decomposed naturally. The resulting material can be planted in the ground creating super charged carbon sinks.
That’s not all it does. It has also been shown to help regulate the ph and water levels of the ground it’s been introduced to which can keep plants, like trees, from dying due to drought or extra water heavy seasons. It has many properties actually and carbon sinks are just one.
