We Need To Think About Stuff – and buy less of it

All the stuff we have in our lives has to go somewhere. Eventually, no matter how sturdy and well made it is, it will end up in the trash and given that cold hard reality, we need think more about our stuff. The second thing we need to realize is, nobody wants your stuff and these are the big ideas behind Secondhand by Adam Minter.

These are both very important concepts that we need to keep in mind and the end result is to reduce the amount of stuff we buy across all sectors. Less electronics, less clothing, less furniture, less just stuff. There are certain things we can’t get around. Obviously children need new clothing and shoes all the time and you have to upgrade your electronics but it’s possible to do so mindfully.

Buy second hand. Donate your gently used high value possessions. Don’t try to pawn off your old DVD player. Nobody wants it. The same with stained clothing and broken toys. And for what you can’t reuse, recycle!
