Hydrogen in Natural Gas – the future of heating

Natural gas is commonly used for heating and it, like so many other things, causes emissions. In order to help cut those emissions, a test is going on at Keele University where natural gas is blended with 20% hydrogen to make a gas that releases less emissions.

Burning hydrogen gas produces water which is far preferable than emissions. Even though hydrogen is a fairly good alternative to natural gas, only 20% is being used so as not damage the existing gas system. Also the gas is expensive.

Still, some researchers think that hydrogen gas is the future but it won’t be for a while as switching over to the gas will call for a massive overhaul of the infrastructure which means rising costs to implement. Still, along with other renewable options, it is one more alternative to today’s fuel sources.
