China Banning Single Use Plastic – country is taking a major stand on pollution

Single use plastics are a problem when it comes to pollution. Many of them aren’t being recycled and end up back in the ecosystem where they take years upon years to breakdown and in the meantime do damage to the natural world. China is saying no more! The country has plans to ban the material nation wide.

Over the next five years the country will be banning single use plastics. Production of products that fall under this banner and the sell of them will also be a no go within the country. The new laws will go into effect in large cities first and then sort of trickle through the country.

This is an amazing step but how it will actually work in practice remains to be seen. Although not ever single use plastic item is necessary, in same cases they are the best option to fill specific, usually medical, needs. How the country will handle this remains to be seen.
