Herbicides are not great for the environment but weeds are not great for the garden so what do you do? Naturally you zap them with electricity and destroy them. Or at least that’s the goal with newer developments it the field of weeding.
Zapping weeds isn’t actually new, there are patents that in the 19th century but the technology wasn’t advanced enough and poisoning them was a lot faster and safer, comparatively. Now that the dangers of glyphosate, a common chemical in herbicides, are known, people who work in weeding are turning to “new” methods.
These include electricity and microwaves that destroy plant cells down to the root, keeping them from coming back at all. One day the job may even be done by drones making weeding even more efficient.
