The FDA has just approved a portable MRI that will be cheaper and use less energy than the full system. This breakthrough will allow life saving care to be administrated to more people with less difficult logistics.
Moving patients to MRI machines can be a difficult prospect. This version is ten times smaller and can be moved to the patient instead. The test showed no negative reaction in the patients that went through the study, though some did have claustrophobia.
This machine is much smaller and uses 35% less energy than a full system. The hope is that this will allow under-served regions access to the technology, providing greater care to the residents. It is still being developed but current results are promising.
