The News Is Stressing You Out – but you’re not alone

It’s not just you, the news really is stressing us all out. This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t read or watch the news, we need the information, it is only to say that we should all be more mindful and try to stick to websites and pages that share the facts, not sensationalism.

A study looked at the effects of media consumption during a crisis on mental health. It turns out that there’s a lot of data out there. The bottom line is that the more we engage with the media, the more we’re exposed to the crisis which makes it larger in our minds and harder to deal with. This isn’t to say that the coronavirus is not a real crisis, it is! It is just to say that we need to keep things in perspective.

Experts suggest keeping your media consumption to a reasonable amount. They also suggest focusing your energy on reputable sources that don’t include sensationalism in order to lower panic. Stay safe out there.
