The Earl of Lichfield, photographer and a cousin of the Queen, died of a stroke early this morning. I was fortunate enough to spend a day with Patrick earlier this summer on a consultancy project, and I found him to be a genuinely nice fellow, in that quintessentially English way that is hard to describe. He had a fabulous sense of humour, a treasure trove of hilarious anecdotes and through it all no hint of any airs or graces which you might expect from someone who was an icon of the swinging 60s, and who mixed in the kind of exalted circles that most of us can only read about. My condolences go out to his friends and family, I know his small but intensely loyal team at Lichfield Studios will be devastated. God speed Patrick.
