Micro-helicopters – rotor motor floaters

Genh4helicopter

We first wrote about the Gen H-4 ultralight helicopter last year, but now it looks like they’re actually shipping the kit to customers for $29,900.00 a pop. What you get is clearly a beta version of the ultralight craft, which would make me a little nervouse. Flying beta software is one thing, flying at a higher altitude is totallllly another. There are, however, other alternatives you can look at, if you’re one of those brave souls who believes that a thing with no wings is actually supposed to hover like that.

Mosquitohelicopter

The tiny Mosquito Ultralight Helicopter is certainly cute, and slightly less radical than the Gen H-4, but still, $26,500.00 to hover around in a teeny, loud cockpit is a real enthusiasts pastime, isn’t it?

Airscooter2

Finally, we first wrote about the Air Scooter back in 2002, and now look, here’s Air Scooter II flying big and bold. Unfortunately, the intervening years have not been so kind to this little craft, because it’s still not in production or for sale. And even when it does go on the market it looks as though it will be significantly more expensive than the alternatives at ‘less than $50,000.’

Do bear in mind, gentle reader, that none of the above craft auto-rotate. In other words they fly like a brick. No engine, no flight. Just plummet. Caveat birdii.
