Paul Yanez has recreated the Joost interface in Flash and it’s superb. Proof indeed that you can deliver great interactive entertainment without forcing people to download applications, limiting it to specific platforms etc etc. It’s all a mock up at the moment, using public video services like YouTube for content, but it just shows what’s possible…nice one.
Joost does not support browser based viewing, to use the application it must be downloaded and installed. In the last several months users have been forced to continually download and upgrade the Joost software in order to continue using Joost. The flash based version works in all browsers on all operating systems. All enhancements and upgrades are transparent to the user and the application continues to retain the user preferences since the application is hosted on a server.
Good use of flash sure. Totally unimpressed by copying some else’s work however. Basically, this thing is just plain uninteresting. Yanez should smoke some pot so he can come up with his own ideas.
