Hmm, as far as I can tell German company Enginion has developed a non combustion heat cell engine which oxidises fuel to produce enough heat to steam power an engine.

The result is emission free, and very efficient (read low cost) power. The company is aiming to produce a home heating system in 2 years time and is talking big talk about powering vehicles etc within a short time frame. Sounds very interesting!
