Poperti – the Google Mail MP3 player

Poperti

Poperti. A desktop email client which lets you stream music stored in your Google Mail account. What’s dat, you say? Werll…the freeware uploads your tracks (or directories of music) as email messages, you then enable Gmail’s POP download facility and from then on you can listen to your music streamed from Gmail.

We first mentioned this back in the day under its original name of Gookbox, but now it’s back with new features like local caching. And a new name. Of course, now that Google has upped Gmail disk space, this kind of application becomes even more interesting, although we’re still not quite sure about its long term value. But what the heck, it’s free. Apparently the next version will support photo viewing from your mail. Weird.

For music messages enriched user experience would mean being able to list, select and play all your music messages. It shows you a music player console and also provides a playlist. You can play your music right off your inbox! In the future we have plans for various useful categories, one such category is photos. Now go and centralise all your music in your email, access it from anywhere you have a broadband connection. Currently support is provided for Google mail only since Gmail provides ample space and free POP service.
