CoveritLive – superb service lets you blog live from anywhere with a net connection and browser

CoveritLive. Ever wanted to do a live blog of an event but didn’t know how? Well now you can with this brilliant new service from Canada. Just sign up for a free account and you will instantly have the power to blog about any event anywhere, anytime as long as you have a net connection and a web browser to hand. You’ll need to cart a laptop around with you of course. I did try it out on a Nokia N810 pocket Internet tablet and it *almost* loaded properly, but at the last rung the browser barfed for some reason, hopefully someone can fix it, because it would be cool to blog from your pocket, no?

The real beauty of this service is in the care and attention they’ve put into the user interface and functionality. It’s not just slapped together, the developers have carefully thought all all aspects of what a mobile live blogger needs. For one thing they’ve made it a snap to add a live blog to your regular blog, no matter which platform you use. You just embed the code for that event into a standard blog post and it’s ready to accept your remote input. From then on in, everything you write on your laptop will immediately appear live on your blog page in chronological order.

There are a heap of great tools for making the process useful, interactive and fun too. You can embed videos and images (there’s a fast upload feature so you can take shots on the spot and upload them instantly once you’ve transferred them from camera to computer), you can run unlimited polls to get reader feedback and readers can ask questions and add their own comments which you can moderate and publish as you go. You can even schedule future events to give your readers a preview of exciting new reasons to visit your blog. Brilliant!

I especially love the quick search box on the sidebar which gives access to Google, Amazon and YouTube. These are just about the only resources you’re ever going to need if you’re looking for information, products or backup material for a live event blog. For example, crucial video moments in past sports events, details on candidate manifestos in political events, current product prices for press launches, you get the idea?

Reader stats, reader email invites and even a Be Right Back box for those oh so crucial restroom breaks…it’s all in this gem of an online application, and what’s more it’s all presented in a crystal clear interface which is a cinch to use. Am I gushing? Is my petticoat showing? Sorry.

If you’ve ever wanted to be more of a citizen journalist, and get out there bringing the news to the world, then this is your perfect tool. And it’s free! What more could you want? Excellent!
