VentureBeat has compiled a list of 27 electric car companies who are poised to change the way we travel sometime very soon. Well, as soon as they can get a few things worked out, like price, range, battery disposal, carrying capacity, speed…you get the picture. We’ve featured most of them already over the years, but it’s useful to get an overview for comparison.
One of the funniest examples is the VentureOne e50, which has a rabid bunch of supporters who make Apple fan-boys sound as tame as the Singing Nun.
There are a few missing names on the list, amongst them is one which we think is a serious contender for the future, the Italian Maranello 4Cycle which comes in a number of reasonably price models, the most interesting of which is the SCB Hybrid. This £11,000 quadracycle has a top speed of 50 mph, and a range of around 225 miles. Sure it’s still a glorified roller skate which seats two, but it comes some way towards meeting the realistic needs of city life apart from just commuting.
